🔬 New Pest Research Lab - The USDA has opened a new livestock insect research laboratory in Texas focused on protecting cattle from threats like ticks, biting flies and New World screwworm. The facility will develop new control methods, surveillance tools and technologies designed to strengthen herd health and protect the cattle industry for years to come.
📉 Less Beef Ahead - U.S. beef production is projected to decline slightly in 2027 as smaller calf crops, increased heifer retention and fewer cattle available for slaughter continue to tighten supplies. While production is expected to fall, strong demand and limited cattle numbers could help support cattle prices into 2027.
🦟 Screwworm Moves Closer - New World screwworm has now been detected just 52 miles from the U.S. border, marking one of the closest confirmed cases to date in the ongoing outbreak in Mexico. Producers are being urged to stay vigilant, monitor cattle closely for unusual wounds and report any suspected cases immediately as efforts continue to keep the pest out of the United States.
