IN THE NEWS
π The Future of Cattle
π The Future of Cattle - The U.S. beef herd has declined to about 86.2 million head, keeping cattle supplies tight across the industry. For producers, this environment highlights the importance of efficiency, planning and positioning herds for opportunities ahead.
π Tight Feedlot Supply - The latest cattle-on-feed report points to continuing tight supplies and fewer cattle moving into feedlots, especially heifers. Limited heifer retention and slower placements suggest rebuilding the overall herd will stay slow for now.
π Next Calf Success - Getting the next calf on the ground starts with setting your cows up right through nutrition, body condition and breeding timing. Paying attention to forage quality, trace minerals and cow health before and after breeding helps keep pregnancies on track and calves arriving strong.
π Tick Threat Growing - A livestock disease carried by the invasive Asian longhorned tick is spreading more widely in U.S. herds and causing illness, anemia and weight loss in infected cattle. Producers are being reminded to watch animals closely for ticks, use insect control tools and work with their vet on a herd health plan to reduce exposure and risk.
π New BRD Treatment Approved - The FDA has approved a new treatment for bovine respiratory disease along with a cattle-specific dewormer, giving producers additional tools to protect herd health. These updated options help ranchers fight tough disease challenges more effectively and can reduce stress on animals during high-risk times.
